Thousands of books have been written about ships, and the sea. However, when one tries to find books on these same subjects, written from a close personal view, the selection suddenly becomes very small. When searching children's books about the sea, of the few available, none of them are written by a ship's captain. They are written by children's books authors, who have researched a subject to fill a market need.

The Captains Log

Peter the Cruise Ship presents information about ships, the various types of boats, the roles they play and what they do, in an entertaining way from an expert. This first person experience makes this series unique.

Children, especially those between the ages of 2 – 8, are fascinated by transportation, things that move, vehicles and boats. Transportation and boats are major learning subjects in early education as evidenced in curriculum, children's museums, by the many children's toys and games, music and books based on this subject area. In addition the topics of friendship, teamwork and cooperation are key childhood issues.

The writer has been a captain on cruise ships for many years and the idea about writing about his personal experiences started about 10 years ago when he was asked to do a series of articles for a magazine. These articles, became very successful and are still being published regularly. These short stories became the basis for the first book, The Captain's Log, a book with funny stories about life on cruise ships.

"I don't know what Henson or Disney will say, but I do know that Wyatt (my 3 year old) says it is his favorite book now. In fact, he now likes to make boats with his Lego set.
– John Nipp

"I just wanted to let you know that every night I read my 3 year old son your book just before he goes to sleep. He knows a lot about ships at this point because he always asks me questions about each thing in the book and it remains one of my favorite parts of any day.
– Jeff Milstein

We could not put it down and read on and on. We laughed so much...

"The Captain's Log", a gift for cruisers, even would be cruisers, as it tells everything you might have written yourself, only this time from the captains point of view.
– Reg Dougherty

When I was reading some of these stories and laughing about them, it slowly dawned on me that I was laughing about myself, as I was there when it happened!
– Fellow Captain

It was one of the few books I ever heard my husband laugh out loud while reading it. I asked him to let me have it, but he only told me to buy my own copy, if I was in such a hurry.
– Anonymous Passenger

I loved this book, it shows that you are just another human being.
