Of all children's books on sale today, very few are about the subject of boats and all of them are written by children's book authors who have researched a subject – types of boats and what they do – to fill a market need. Many are non fiction. Peter the Cruise Ship presents information about cruise ships, various other types of ships, the ships' various roles and what they do in an entertaining way, coming from an expert. This first person experience is what makes Peter the Cruise Ship unique.

Kids, especially those between the ages 2 – 8, are fascinated by transportation, things that move, vehicles and boats. Transportation and boats are major learning subjects in early education as evidenced in curriculum, children's museums, by the many children's toys, games, music and books based on the subject area. In addition the topics of friendship, teamwork, cooperation and geography, as brought forward in this book, are key childhood issues.

As there are no children's books on the topic of cruise ships, the author, a cruise ship captain himself, wanted to fill this void, by writing a book children would love.

Peter the Cruise Ship is a full color hard cover book and is printed in the United States.
